Jubilant

Another month almost gone and so has the hot sunny weather...  but at least it's nice and dry today and the sun keeps peeping out.

I told you a while back that I'd treated myself to some Penny Black cling stamps and here's another of them called 'Jubilant' and coloured with Promarkers. I was going to keep it all white but decided it looked better framed onto a paper from Dovecraft 'princess fairytale' and I went for a CAS design just adding a sentiment from Happy Little Stampers.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Uniko Studios challenge 'flowers'
Tuesday Throwdown challenge 'happy birthday'
Addicted to Stamps and More challenge 'CAS'
Colour Crazy challenge 'anything goes'
Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'a walk in the garden'
The Craft Barn challenge ' clean and simple'

Thanks for popping by today and I hope you have a super weekend whatever you get up to.

Little Boxes

You know with paper pads there are always some sheets you just don't get around to using for whatever reason so I decided to make some little origami gift boxes. These each take two 6 inch papers with snippets of card stuck inside the lid and base to strengthen them. Then you decorate with anything to hand - in this case some die-cut snippets, gems, butterflies and flowers.

So quick and easy to make - if you want a bigger box just get out those 8 inch and 12 inch papers and they're ideal for giving gifts in.

I made these so I could join in with the Allsorts challenge which is 'anything but a card' and as I used some snippets I'm also heading over to see the playmates over at Pixie's Snippets Playground

Rudolph Day

Hi everyone, I was very lucky to be invited as guest DT over at the Rudolph Day challenge which is hosted by the fabulous Maureen of Scraps of Life by Scrappymo. The 'anything goes christmas' challenges start on the 25th and close on the last day of each month and there is a fabulous prize to be won, so I hope you will head over to join in the fun as well as get a start on your christmas makes.

For my Rudolph card I used a Giordano decoupage sheet from Joanna Sheen, Bo Bunny paper and gold mirricard for matting. With the fabulous decoupage image I didn't think it needed any embellishments so just added a sentiment from my stash.

I shall enter this in the following challenges ~

Cute Card Thursday challenge 'in the round'
Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'christmas in July'
Hiding in My Craft Room challenge 'christmas in July'
Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas challenge 'christmas + use a sentiment'
Country View challenge 'have fun with circles'

Thanks for taking the time to pop by and for all your greatly appreciated comments

And here's the other Penny Black

Wow, what a fabulous person Darnell is..... she packed this glorious weather in her suitcase and bought it all the way over here to England for us to enjoy and I must say I'm enjoying every second of it. For those of you who don't know her then I would encourage you to pay a visit as she's sure to brighten your day with her fun tales.

Anyways on with my card...... in my last post I used a Penny Black stamp 'flower gala' and told you there were 2 stamps in this set, well this is the other stamp. I coloured it with my usual Promarkers with a few touches of Sakura glitter pen added (but they don't show up in the photo), wrapped a piece of lace (the last little bit I have) around, then matted onto some pearlescent card before attaching to the base card. The sentiment was a preprinted one (but not sure where from) which I cut with a nesting die and then stuck to a Marianne Designs fancy circle die cut from the snippet of leftover pearlescent card. I die-cut 2 butterflies also from card snippets and covered them with Stickles and added pearls for the bodies. To finish I added a bow and a couple of heart shaped pearls.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'
Passion For Promarkers challenge 'summer flowers'
Stamping Sensations challenge 'anything goes with a stamp and ribbon'
Uniko challenge 'flowers'
The Ribbon Girl challenge 'use any image'
Noor! Design UK challenge 'anything goes + option of chipboard'
Aurora Wings challenge 'tic tac toe' (I used lace / flowers / bow)

I'm sorry I haven't been around blogland much lately but I'm still trying to get myself fit. I went for an MRI scan yesterday so should have the results in a couple of weeks or so and then I can get things sorted. Thanks for popping by today and I hope you have a great week.

Another Penny Black

I'm back today with another of my new Penny Black stamps. This is 'flower gala' - there are two stamps in the bag and the other is a work in progress card at the moment. I stamped the image several times and coloured with Promarkers, then stamped a Happy Little Stampers sentiment onto a scrap of vellum which I wrapped round the image. I used a punch to round the corners before adding to a pink card blank. To finish I added a couple of Cheery Lyn butterfly dies with some sparkly gems on the bodies.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets' vellum + butterfly die-cuts
Happy Little Stampers Dies challenge 'anything goes with dies'
Creative Artiste challenge 'anything goes'
Love To Create challenge 'anything creative / mixed media goes'
Cupcake Inspirations challenge 'photo colour inspiration'
The ABC challenge 'K is for kind'
Card and Scrap challenge 'anything goes'
Creative Corner challenge 'anything goes'

Thanks for your visit today. I'm off to back up ALL my files so that hubby can perform a bit of surgery (to clean out all the dust) on my laptop and then reinstall Windows as it's taking about 15 minutes to start up each time!

Christmas Tree

Hi everyone, I've got a very quick and CAS card to show you today using a Hero Arts stamp that has been sitting in the cupboard for years waiting to be inked up. I didn't like how it looked in blank ink so got out my gold, red and green gel pens and went over the stamped lines before sticking to a piece of gold mirri-card and the onto a hammered effect card base. To finish I added a gold peel-off sentiment and a red star from my stash.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Happy Little Stampers Christmas challenge 'gold'
Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas challenge 'vintage or anything goes'
ABC Christmas challenge 'N is for no rules'
Addicted To Stamps and More challenge 'anything goes'

I have an update on my Gemini machine - I am happy to say that Hobbycraft got back to me pretty quick and to cut a long story short they arranged for the courier to collect my machine and I received a replacement today. I've not had chance to get it out of the box to try it yet but I'm keeping fingers crossed that this one will be okay. They apologised for the shop managers behaviour and will be sending me a £10 gift voucher to hopefully keep my custom.

Sorry Parsnip it doesn't look like you'll be able to wave a placard outside Hobbycraft after all!

Butterfly Dancing with Penny Black

Hi everyone and thanks for coming to visit today.

I was very lucky to be given the chance to be guest designer over at the Penny Black and More challenge where the theme this month is 'anything goes with a stamp'... so the perfect excuse for me to ink up one of my fabulous new Penny Black stamps. The one I've used is called 'Butterfly Dance' which I coloured with Promarkers and I used chalks for the background. I stamped a Clearly Besotted sentiment and then stuck the image to a linen effect card base. At this point I wasn't quite sure what to do with my card but then my eyes fell on some Tim Holtz 'crazy birds' that I'd got already coloured and cut and this little chappie decided to wander over and take a closer look at those butterflies dancing about. A Memory Box die-cut ladybird decided to get in the act too and after adding some die-cut letters (also from Memory Box) I had a father's day card for my Dad. Must admit that when I bought this stamp I didn't think of using it for a masculine card, but for a keen gardener I think it works.

I do hope you will come and join in the challenge and also be in with a chance to win some amazing prizes. A big thank you Penny Black and More for letting me join you this month.

I'd like to enter this card in the following challenges

The Artistic Stamper challenge 'all thing bright and beautiful'
The Craft Barn Two Weekly challenge 'butterflies'
That's Crafty challenge 'masculine'
Cupcake Inspirations challenge 'flowers'
and as I used snippets for the letters and ladybird I'm heading over to join in the fun at Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge

I actually got round to trying out my new Crafters Companion Gemini electric die-cutter yesterday.
First off I ran a couple of embossing folder through it and then cut some dies - okay so far and great not having to crank a handle, but when I tried to emboss a die it cut the embossing mat. Now I'm not sure if this was a machine fault or just a substandard embossing mat, but the Grand Calibur embossing mat I've got has been well used for at least 5 years and is still in great condition.

So we boxed up the machine and Hubby took it to the local Hobbycraft store where the manager told him I'd used it incorrectly and should have placed the die face down. So when hubby phoned and told me I said show her the instruction booklet where it clearly states the die is face up and I'd layered exactly as stated. He duly went back into the store and on arriving back home (with the Gemini)  told me she insists it's my fault the die had cut the mat and there is absolutely no fault with the machine or embossing mat and they weren't prepared to do anything about it. Of course the first thing I did was send an email to their customer service and I'm just waiting to see if I get a reply.

I know I've probably just been unlucky but now I really wish I'd gone for the Tattered Lace Big Blue electric die-cutter  AND I definitely will not be spending another penny in Hobbycraft.... not even on a pack of glue dots.

Dragons and Mice

Hi everyone and a big thank you for your continued visits and well wishes. I'm just popping by today with a couple of cards I made using stuff I got out of the crafty cupboard when I was having a mini sort out the other day.

The first is from the snippets box - paper, card and ribbon are all snippets with just the adddition of some card candi and a peel-off sentiment. The image is Bugaboo 'Clyde birthday' which I coloured with my usual Promarkers. When I started colouring I started singing 'Puff the magic dragon' and days later I still can't get the tune out of my head !!

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'
Passion For Promarkers challenge 'inspired by a song title' Puff the Magic Dragon
The Ribbon Girl challenge ' use any image'

The second card is using a decoupage House Mouse image that I'd made up some time ago. Thank goodness I've got quite a few of these already cut out and made up ready to use as I love decoupaged images. All I needed to do was mount it onto some gold mirri-card and then onto a card base with just a touch of Stickles on the holly berries and (recycled from an old christmas card) a bow and sentiment.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Rudolph Day June challenge 'anything christmas'
Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas challenge 'use a sentiment'
ABC Christmas challenge 'M is for mice'
House Mouse & Friends Monday challenge 'a day spent with friends / anything goes'
Gruffies & Guests challenge 'add a number / anything goes'

Thanks to those of you who left me comments about electric die-cutting machines. I am now the owner of a Crafters Companion Gemini which has been sitting on the kitchen work top for the past fortnight unused (apart from checking that it works of course). I bought it from Hobbycraft and got 15% off my first online order so only cost a few pence under £144 with free postage

First impressions out of the box...
Looks nice and not that noisy
Just switch on and pop the plates in

BUT.....
Definitely NOT lightweight (heavier than my Grand Calibur) and no way can I pick it up.
Handholds on the side are a bit awkward especially if you have long fingers (Grand Calibur much easier to hold with the handle)

As for how good it actually is.... I'll try and get my fingers working and make a card this week to let you know, but the fact I won't have to turn the handle will be a big plus.

Snippets, Stars and a CASE

Hi everyone, sorry I've not been around Blogland but my aches and pains have got a lot worse so I ended up paying a visit to the doctor who is sending me for an MRI scan. Just have to wait for an appointment from the hospital so not sure how long that will take!

I do have a couple of cards to show you - the first I made a couple of weeks ago for the Happy Little Stampers CASE the Designer challenge. I used the HLS Mix Mash stamp set with some flowers and gems from my stash.

and this is the card I CASEd

My second card is a very quick CAS card I made yesterday with a few bits I had lying around - snippets of paper, a few die cut stars, a bit of ribbon and peel off sentiment. The result.... well Hubby called it 'fun' but I think he was being polite !

This one's for Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets' Allsorts Challenge 'fancy bows and ribbon' and The Craft Barn challenge 'stars'

I won't be around too much to visit as my hands aren't letting my type much but I really appreciate your visit here today.

Birthday Chick

Hi everyone. I'm here with a very quick and CAS card featuring a Bugaboo 'birthday bird' coloured with Promarkers. I used some papers from my snippets pile and a silver peel-off sentiment.

Looking at this photo - can you spot what I've missed?... so I'm off now to colour in the little feather on her head.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Catch The Bug challenge 'photo inspiration'

The Craft Barn challenge 'use 2 papers'

Crafting With An Attitude challenge 'anything goes'

Before I go I was wondering if any of you have had a play with Crafters Companion Gemini electric die-cutting machine and what you thought of it as I'm thinking of changing from my Grand Calibur to save a few aches and pains in my neck and arms.
