Dragons and Mice

Hi everyone and a big thank you for your continued visits and well wishes. I'm just popping by today with a couple of cards I made using stuff I got out of the crafty cupboard when I was having a mini sort out the other day.

The first is from the snippets box - paper, card and ribbon are all snippets with just the adddition of some card candi and a peel-off sentiment. The image is Bugaboo 'Clyde birthday' which I coloured with my usual Promarkers. When I started colouring I started singing 'Puff the magic dragon' and days later I still can't get the tune out of my head !!

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'
Passion For Promarkers challenge 'inspired by a song title' Puff the Magic Dragon
The Ribbon Girl challenge ' use any image'

The second card is using a decoupage House Mouse image that I'd made up some time ago. Thank goodness I've got quite a few of these already cut out and made up ready to use as I love decoupaged images. All I needed to do was mount it onto some gold mirri-card and then onto a card base with just a touch of Stickles on the holly berries and (recycled from an old christmas card) a bow and sentiment.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Rudolph Day June challenge 'anything christmas'
Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas challenge 'use a sentiment'
ABC Christmas challenge 'M is for mice'
House Mouse & Friends Monday challenge 'a day spent with friends / anything goes'
Gruffies & Guests challenge 'add a number / anything goes'

Thanks to those of you who left me comments about electric die-cutting machines. I am now the owner of a Crafters Companion Gemini which has been sitting on the kitchen work top for the past fortnight unused (apart from checking that it works of course). I bought it from Hobbycraft and got 15% off my first online order so only cost a few pence under £144 with free postage

First impressions out of the box...
Looks nice and not that noisy
Just switch on and pop the plates in

Definitely NOT lightweight (heavier than my Grand Calibur) and no way can I pick it up.
Handholds on the side are a bit awkward especially if you have long fingers (Grand Calibur much easier to hold with the handle)

As for how good it actually is.... I'll try and get my fingers working and make a card this week to let you know, but the fact I won't have to turn the handle will be a big plus.

Snippets, Stars and a CASE

Hi everyone, sorry I've not been around Blogland but my aches and pains have got a lot worse so I ended up paying a visit to the doctor who is sending me for an MRI scan. Just have to wait for an appointment from the hospital so not sure how long that will take!

I do have a couple of cards to show you - the first I made a couple of weeks ago for the Happy Little Stampers CASE the Designer challenge. I used the HLS Mix Mash stamp set with some flowers and gems from my stash.

and this is the card I CASEd

My second card is a very quick CAS card I made yesterday with a few bits I had lying around - snippets of paper, a few die cut stars, a bit of ribbon and peel off sentiment. The result.... well Hubby called it 'fun' but I think he was being polite !

This one's for Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets' Allsorts Challenge 'fancy bows and ribbon' and The Craft Barn challenge 'stars'

I won't be around too much to visit as my hands aren't letting my type much but I really appreciate your visit here today.

Birthday Chick

Hi everyone. I'm here with a very quick and CAS card featuring a Bugaboo 'birthday bird' coloured with Promarkers. I used some papers from my snippets pile and a silver peel-off sentiment.

Looking at this photo - can you spot what I've missed?... so I'm off now to colour in the little feather on her head.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Catch The Bug challenge 'photo inspiration'

The Craft Barn challenge 'use 2 papers'

Crafting With An Attitude challenge 'anything goes'

Before I go I was wondering if any of you have had a play with Crafters Companion Gemini electric die-cutting machine and what you thought of it as I'm thinking of changing from my Grand Calibur to save a few aches and pains in my neck and arms.

Butterfly and A.... Part 2

Mrs A's Butterfly challenge is running for a couple more weeks so plenty of time to join in the fun. Mrs A has some more inspiration for you over on her blog here and I've also got a couple of makes to show you. The theme this time around is A... for Apertures and / or the colour Apricot.

First off I decided to have a go at making a shaker card (my first attempt). I cut the aperture with an Xcut circle die and added some punched butterflies for the shaker element. The front was decorated with Marianne Designs Craftables 'Anja's Flowers' and an All Occasion Dies 'Butterfly' which I'd coloured with an apricot Promarker. Then I used chalks to colour the sky inside. There are quite a few more butterflies to shake but they kept going in to hiding every time I lifted the card up to take the photo - due to the fact I'd put the sticky pads in a square and not around the edge of the circle !!

I shall enter this in the following challenges -

Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'dies +/or punches'

Mod Squad challenge 'peek a boo cards'

Die Cut Divas challenge 'anything goes'

The second card I made was from bits I had out on the table. The kraft card was the back of a 6inch square card that had gone completely wrong (front had gone in the bin) so I folded it to make the base card and added a MFT 'peek a boo trio' die and a couple of Cheery Lynn and All Occasion Dies 'butterflies' which I'd already coloured with the Promarker. So now for the centre hole.... well all I could find was this sentiment (a magazing freebie) that seemed to work.

and as I used snippets for this I shall head over to see my playmates at the Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge

Thanks for popping by and for all your lovely comments. At the moment I'm suffering a bit from 'old age'!...  my back, neck, shoulders and just about every other bone and joint is causing me pain so I'm trying to reduce the time spent on the computer in an effort to relieve it, so I may be a bit slow in returning your visit.

A CAS Birthday

There are a couple more challenge blogs celebrating birthdays so first off  I 'd like to wish the lovely Brenda and her team over at Allsorts who are celebrating a massive 7 years of challenges (and still going strong) a very Happy Birthday ...  and secondly a Happy Birthday to all at AAA Cards who are having their 2nd Birthday Bash.

I've had another play with my Penny Black 'the unfolding' cling stamp but this time I inked it with Memento inks. I used the little Dew Drop ink pads so it's easier to ink the different areas with colours straight onto the stamp and no other colouring was needed. Then I stuck the image to a coloured card blank and added a silver peel-off sentiment. Looking at the photo I think it may be a little too CAS and need a couple of pearls adding to finish it off but, as they're at the bottom of the craft cupboard where my back is just not going to let me get down to at the moment, they will have to get added at a later date!

Must admit I'm rather liking my new PB stamps and I still have some more to play with.

I shall enter this in the following challenges ~

Allsorts challenge 'happy birthday'

AAA Cards challenge 'happy birthday'

In The Pink challenge 'happy anything'

Penny Black and More challenge 'anything goes'

Stamping Sensations challenge 'anything goes'

Time Out 'Inspired by Words' challenge 'may all your weeds be wild flowers'

Thanks to you all for popping by and for all the wonderful words of encouragement you leave me.

Penny Black Sunflowers

I recently treated myself to some Penny Black flower stamps and I'm finally getting time to ink and colour them.

This one is called 'sunny pair' and I coloured it with my usual Promarkers, then cut and matted it onto some yellow card. The spotty paper was a magazine freebie and the lace, ribbon, pearls and peel-off sentiment are from my stash. When I'd put it all together I used a Memory box texture brilliance stencil and Memento inks to add the sunshine - I know that was a bit crazy as it could have gone badly wrong but I wasn't sure if the sun would look too much so wanted to see it without first. I'm not sure if it's my laptop screen but IRL the yellow is not quite as dark and is definitely more of a 'sunny' colour.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Passion For Promarkers Special Anniversary challenge 'spots +/or stripes'

The Craft Barn challenge 'sun'

Dream Valley challenge 'ribbon. lace and pearls'

Time Out 'Inspired By Words' challenge 'may all your weeds be wild flowers'

Penny Black and More challenge 'anything goes'

Stamping Sensations challenge 'anything goes'

Craft Stamper Take It Make It challenge 'anything goes'

Crafty Ribbons challenge 'ribbon and lace'

Thanks for popping by today. I'm finally getting time to catch up with you all, so if I haven't been round yet then I'll see you over the coming weekend.

Butterfly and A for Aperture and Apricot

Good Morning everyone and thanks for popping by today. I was very lucky to be a winner over at Mrs A's Butterfly challenge and as well as receiving a prize of some fabulous butterfly goodies I was also asked if I'd like to be a guest designer and of course I jumped at the chance.

I picked the letter A to go along with the Butterflies and Mrs A gave me..... Aperture and.... the colour Apricot. Although I've never made an aperture card before I must admit to be rather relieved when she gave me the theme and that only left the colour to sort., so after a mad search through my crafty stash I found this A4 heavyweight patterrned card (possibly from Hunkydory) to use for the base. I cut it down to approx 6 inch square and used an Xcut scalloped circle die to cut the aperture and added dies cut from snippets of card and paper - Memory Box Chloe Stem and Marianne Designs scroll (both of which I coloured with an apricot Promarker), Poppystamps Blooming Posie (with Stickles added to the centres) and Marianne Designs circlet. I added one of the fabulous wooden butterflies that were in the goodies I received from Mrs A and some gems from my stash. I decided not to tempt fate by stamping directly on the inside of the card so instead I stamped a Penny Black sentiment on a die-cut scalloped circle and carefully stuck in place.

When I looked at the leftover strip from the A4 card I thought it would be ideal for a bookmark so used a smaller scalloped circle to cut the aperture. Then after folding and sticking the card I added another of the wooden butterflies and a couple of gems.

I shall enter this in the following challenges ~

Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes With Dies challenge 'use dies as main focus'

Cuttlebug Mania challenge 'May flowers'

Pixies Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'  I used snippets for the die-cuts and -not sure if it counts but - the bookmark was the leftover snippet from the main card.

This Butterfly challenge will be running for 4 weeks instead of the usual fortnight so I shall be back in a couple of weeks (on the 1st June) with some more inspiration. In the meantime I'll look forward to visiting your blogs and see what you come up with for your 'Butterfly and Aperture / Apricot' creations.

Birthday Celebrations

Hi everyone and a huge thank you for the lovely comments and best wishes you left on my last post. I am very pleased to say that after a few days, when the antibiotics started to kick in, Dad made a speedy recovery and was discharged from hospital Saturday afternoon..... and I managed to keep all the plants in his greenhouse watered well and nothing died off !!

I did get another scare this morning though as the Careline phoned me because he'd pressed his alarm and as he wasn't answering the phone we leapt in the car and had a mad dash around - with me imagining the worst of course - only to find him just coming in from the garden to make himself a cuppa tea. He'd had a busy morning in the greenhouse and must have caught the alarm without realising and never heard the phone ringing in the house..... talk about relief !!

Anyways enough of my ramblings as I have the card to show you which I made for Dad to give his Sister who was 94 last week.... and just in case you're wondering I'm happy to say she is just as active as my Dad. I used a large 8 inch card blank and a decoupage image which I printed from the Joanna Sheen 'Jayne Netley Mayhew collection part 2' cd, with a few extra flowers printed off as well. The paper is a freebie from The Coffee Shop blog, the sentiment is a Clearly Besotted stamp and the pearls and lace are from my stash.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

CD Sunday challenge 'something beginning with B'   birds + blossom

Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'birthdays'

Creative Corner challenge 'let's celebrate'

A Gem of a challenge 'flowers'

Thanks for your visit and I'll be around to catch up with you all over the next few days.

Butterflies and Snippets

Hi everyone and apologies for not being around the last few days. My Dad was taken into hospital again - this time with pneumonia. He is pretty unstoppable and after being discharged from hospital last time he was busy in the greenhouse so we also have to keep going to his house tending plants as well as hospital visiting!

I've got a card that I made for a few challenges (but only just got chance to blog) and one of which I'm too late for but which was the colour scheme I used. The image is 'sketchy flower frames' from Digistamp Boutique which I coloured with Promarkers and matted onto some red card. I used a leftover piece of white card for the base so it measures just a tad over 4 inch square. The black pearls are from my stash and the butterflies are punched from a snippet of the red card

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use your snippets'

Butterfly challenge 'butterfly + R for recycle / ruby red'

Mod Squad challenge 'April showers bring May flowers'

Digistamp Boutique May 16 customer competition

I'm not feeling too much like crafting and blogging at the moment so I hope you don't mind if I'm not around so much this next week or so. I promise to catch up with all of you when I'm feeling a bit more energetic. But leaving you on a more positive note.......  my baby granddaughter is taking her first plane ride and will be bringing her mummy and daddy to see me in September. I can't wait to have my first cuddle.

Gesso and Stencils

Hi everyone and thanks to all of you who left such lovely comments on my first attempt at stamping with Aquamarkers.

I've another 'give it a go and see what happens' card to show you today and I've CASEd the same card as I did yesterday. This time I've used my new Penny Black 'intertwined' stencil and applied gesso through it onto black card. When the gesso dried I used Aquamarkers with water to colour it before matting onto silver mirricard and then onto the base card. The sentiment is a Clearly Besotted stamp and the butterfly is a Cheery Lynn die with a couple of gems added.

I've applied gesso through stencils before but never as the focal point and I'm not sure whether I like this card..... although maybe that's because of the black background as I don't find it an easy colour to work with.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Happy Little Stampes CASE challenge - and this is the card I CASEd

Country View challenge 'use a stencil'

Cuttlebug Mania challenge 'butterfly'

Love to Create challenge 'anything goes mixed media'

Mod Squad challenge 'April showers bring May flowers'

Simon Says Wednesday challenge 'stencil it'

and as I had to delve deep into my snippets box for the black card (told you I don't really do black) and also the little pieces of white card for the butterfly and sentiment, I shall also head over to see the playmates over at Pixie's Snippets Playground where the challenge is to use up your snippets.
