NBUS and Hidden Words

Hi everyone, I'm here with another NBUS (never-before-used-schtuff) card and I've also made it entirely from snippets. The card base is a piece that was left over from another project, as were the pieces of card I used for stamping and die-cutting. The NBUS items are a fabulous Penny Black stamp 'daffodil dance' and the Tattered Lace word die. I took up Darnell's challenge to make a 'hidden word' card and, although I'd tried this technique once before using butterflies to create a hidden image, I'd never done it with words. Mmmm.... I think I just about managed to get away with it this time, but next time I try this I'll definitely need to think more about the stamp I use and word placement so the word doesn't get too 'hidden'

The white arc you can see is a reflection from something and not on the card

So I'm heading over to Darnell's NBUS challenge with my NBUS and hidden word

then I'm skipping over to see Miss Di and the Playmates at Pixie's Snippets Playground with my snippets

and finally I shall enter this in

Winter Wonderland challenge 'spring fever - flowers, sunshine, romance'

Penny Black and More challenge 'anything goes'

Penny Black Saturday challenge 'anything goes'

That's it from me today... I'm off to do some much needed housework and then make a 1st birthday card (which as usual I've left until last minute). Thanks for popping by today and I hope you have a great weekend.

Getting Inky

This month is certainly racing by and life seems to be getting in the way of crafting but when I came across an MDF plaque that I've had for ages I decided I should have a go at getting inky. First I gave it a coating of gesso and then used Aquamarkers to add a touch of colour before getting out the stencils and inks. I added some Sarntangle stamping which I coloured with Promarkers and then continued with some JOFY stamps. To finish off I added a pearl, butterfly and some Stickles to the hearts. I'm not sure what I think of it - probably because it's so different from my usual - but at least there's one less thing collecting dust in the cupboard now!

and here's a couple of close-ups

I shall enter this in the following challenges

NBUS and New Technique

Crikey, I can't believe how quick this month is passing and how little crafting I've done. At the end of last year I made myself the usual promises that I would try new techniques and also try to conquer Mt Nbus but it didn't look like I'd be doing either until Darnell laid down the gauntlet in the shape of another of her fabulous NBUS challenges.... and this time she has given us an optional theme to use  - coloured pencils on kraft or if that's not your thing to try a new technique

A search through the cupboard confirmed my suspicion that I no longer had any pencil crayons but I did find some NBUS embossing powders and Versamark ink pad which I'd bought last year when I thought I might try my hand at heat embossing...... I know, I'm very late to the party on this one but it's just something I've never got around to having a go at before. I used a Spellbinders ornament die to cut a stencil from some scrap card and with an NBUS Inkylicious duster (I've had these for at least 3 years) I applied blue Memento ink onto kraft card before using white embossing powder and a stamp from the Penny Black 'spread cheer' stamp set. I added red Stickles for the berries, star dust Stickles around the edges and then used a Sakura white pen to outline it. Then it was just a case of using a corner punch, attaching to a base card and adding a bow. I can see that I'm going to need a lot of practice to master heat embossing and glad that I only bought 3 pots of embossing powder - but at least I've tried!

The ink I used on the bauble is BLUE but looks more like grey in the photo.

So with my NBUS goodies and NBUS technique I'm heading over to Darnell's NBUS challenge

Birthday Dreams

Just popping by with a quick post this morning to show you the card I made for my Daughter's birthday. There is a bit of upcycling with this as I originally made it as a 5x7 inch card for her last year which didn't get sent. The original card - a Mo Manning image coloured with Promarkers and a Penny Black sentiment - was trimmed slightly and added to an 8x8 inch card with a LOTV background paper. I made a sentiment on the computer which I die cut with my new Tattered Lace Charisma Frames and added a bow. It looked a bit bare at the bottom so  I printed off another smaller image and cut out just a couple of the cupcakes which were coloured with Promarkers and then I added some Stickles.

Sorry about the photo but I was in a hurry to get it posted

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Allsorts challenge 'wings on things'
Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'angels/fairies or winter'
Inky Chicks challenge 'anything goes'

I'm off now to search for Mojo - always seems to disappear when most needed! Oh and if you hadn't already heard, the lovely Darnell is hosting a surprise NBUS challenge on her blog so time to get out all your unused crafty goodies and join in the fun.

White Winter

Hi everyone, hope you're managing to keep healthy and crafty. Unfortunately I'm failing with my new year's resolution and have only placed ONE order for crafty goods so far this year, but in my defence I did buy a good few new goodies before christmas including another die-cutting machine. My Tattered Lace Baby Blue is well used for smaller dies but I did need something for those bigger nesting dies and embossing folders so Santa treated me to a Cut'N'Boss which I am VERY happy with. (You may remember me getting a Crafters Companion Gemini machine last summer, well that was my WORST crafty purchase EVER)

So using some of my new goodies and lots of snippets of white card I've attempted a white on white design. The new dies I've used are Tim Holtz 'winter greens' and 'paper snowflakes mini' the background is embossed with a Die'sire folder and the sentiment is from another new purchase the Penny Black 'spread cheer' stamp set. As always taking photos of white cards is a pain and these are the best I got.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixie's Snippets Playground challenge 'use snippets'
Time Out challenge 'winter with optional white on white'
Country View challenge 'anything goes'
Fussy and Fancy Friday challenge 'angels/fairies or winter'
ABC Christmas challenge 'A for anything goes or B for something beginning with B'
Noor! Design UK challenge 'anything goes'

It's taking a bit of an effort to get crafty this year, especially with this cold weather we're having - I don't know about you but I would just love to hibernate until spring! But instead I guess it's time to make a cup of hot chocolate, put on another pair of socks and try to motivate myself into action. Have a great weekend whatever you've got planned and thanks for popping by today.

Crazy Dog and Christmas Leftovers

Happy New Year everyone

I do hope you are all well and have made lots of new years resolutions that you can keep..... well for a couple of days at least. The only one I've made is to buy lots of new crafty goodies 'cos I know that's one resolution I CAN keep for the whole year!!

Despite the awful weather today I'm starting this year with fingers crossed and oodles of optimism.... hubby is feeling much better today although not quite rid of the germs..... I've not caught it off him (touching wood while I type this)..... and Dad is due out of hospital this afternoon.

Anyways enough of my waffling on, here's the card I made for Dad's 96th birthday using brand new goodies, old goodies and snippets. The new goodies are the Tim Holtz Crazy Dogs stamps and dies and some Tim Holtz distress crayons. I stamped the dog onto Daler Rowney mixed media card and used the distress crayons and water to colour the main body and aquamarkers for the pink ears and tongue and blue collar. I used the distress crayons straight onto the image and used a waterbrush to spread the colour but have since tried running the crayon onto an acrylic block and picking it up from there with a waterbrush which I found much easier. The embossed background is an Embossalicious folder matted onto some leftover coloured card and I die-cut a couple of circles (must treat myself to some balloon dies) to add the sentiments from gold peel-offs and hand written with gold pen.

I shall enter this in the following challenges

Pixies Snippets challenge 'use snippets' coloured card for matting and snippets for the die cuts
Allsorts challenge 'something new'
Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge 'anything goes'
Penny Black and More challenge 'anything goes'
Country View challenge 'anything goes;
Winter Wonderland challenge 'for someone special / happy new year'
Sparkles Monthly challenge 'happy birthday'

and here are the christmas leftovers - a very CAS card using LOTV toppers and a Clearly Besotted sentiment stamp, which I'm entering this into Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas challenge 'anything goes as long as it's christmas'

Thanks for your visit today and I hope you enjoy the rest of the holiday and have a great start to the new year.
